If you go to any domain forum, you will see millions of people selling domains with Page Rank. Why are these domains attractive ? The answer is simple.

1.) Domains with existing page rank tend to have a few links pointing towards them already, and therefore the initial spade work is done. If the domain was acquired before it expired, then it will have the benefit of age too.

2.) People on the internet are always on the lookout for easy ways to make money. PR domains can go for $ XXX ( especially the PR 5’s and ones above that ).

3.) For people who run blog networks and sell blog posts, acquiring these domains will help them avoid the time gap that it will take for a new domain to get Page Rank.

Their marketing becomes easier- I have 100 domains in this network- 10 PR 5’s 12 PR 4’s and so on.

So why shouldn’t you buy one ? Fake Page Rank, which I will touch upon in the later part of this post is one. The other reason being that Google could reduce the PR on the next update. So one day, you might have a domain selling for $ xx even if it does not make sense, simply because it has PR. The next day, the update takes place and the PR is lowered to zero, and the domain is worthless. Also, sites which linked to the domain previously will remove their links if they see that the site has gone down, or has been replaced by a completely new site.

What is Fake Page Rank ?

When one domain redirects to another site ( a 301 or 302 redirect usually), the domain gets the PR of the redirecting site.

How do you check for Fake PR ?

Tools like Check Page Rank and the one over at Seo Logs

should do the job for you.

If you searched for the cached version of the page in Google, you will see the site that it has redirected to, and not the domain.

Vista.com was acquired by VistaPrint Limited last week for a fee of 1.25 million dollars. The sale also included the trademark that Innuity, the seller, had on the name. The domain was the highest selling one for the week ended November 11, earning six times as much as its nearest rival, DIY.net, which sold for $200,000.

An interesting name featuring on the top 10 list was musafir.com which was sold for $ 24,000 on AfterNic. Musafir means ” Traveller ” in Hindi.

Fold.com was sold for $ 25 K on sedo ( a pronounceable LLLL.com)

It was always on the cards after all the three letter coms had disappeared, but has now become reality. Yes Folks, a few days ago, all possible LLLL.com’s were registered. This was the countdown thread at Namepros. Owning a good name could help you rake in the moolah, as demand exceeds supply. In a few months time, even a crappy domain might cost you anywhere between 15 and 20 bucks to get, and the good ones will go between $50-100, and maybe even more, depending on the letters involved.

A little bit of mathematics tells you that there are 4,56,976 LLLL.com domains. ( 26 Letters in the English alphabet, and 26 * 26 * 26* 26 gives you the required number). It does look a bit stunning, but with domains becoming increasing affordable, more and more people are jumping onto the bandwagon.

Ofcourse there will be a few llll. com’s that will be dropped everyday. The really good ones will be snapped up the guys with muscle. But do not worry-most of the expired domains that you pick up should definitely make profit.

One wonders when the net’s, the org’s and the rest will start disappearing.

For the time being, focus on LLLLL.com domains. They will become rare in a few years.

One option is to park the pages, and earn revenue through type in traffic. The other is to buy some cheap web hosting and set up a site in some high paying niche. When I say high paying, I mean making money by adsense marketing. Certain keywords, especially those in health and finance pay better than others.

An effective internet marketing campaign is important. You can drive traffic to your website by ppc advertising. Adwords is an extremely good option to start off with. A good internet advertising campaign can lead to a high rate of conversion, and you can make that much more revenue.
