Spam is a big problem for all the bloggers out there-something that would come first on the list of things that bloggers would like to see eliminated from the internet. Akismet, as mentioned in the link above is a tool that does its job exceptionally well. It has a virtually unquestioned hold over the wordpress anti spam plugin market. Since it comes bundled in with the wordpress package, it is something that most new WP users notice after installing their blog. I was a bit pleasantly suprised that Akismet decided to give their newest rivals a little publicity on their official blog.
November Namecheap coupons
Another month has arrived, and it is time for some new coupons.
Jiveturkey was one, but it seems that one has expired.
GOBBLEGOBBLE appears to be one that works.
All LLLL.com taken
It was always on the cards after all the three letter coms had disappeared, but has now become reality. Yes Folks, a few days ago, all possible LLLL.com’s were registered. This was the countdown thread at Namepros. Owning a good name could help you rake in the moolah, as demand exceeds supply. In a few months time, even a crappy domain might cost you anywhere between 15 and 20 bucks to get, and the good ones will go between $50-100, and maybe even more, depending on the letters involved.
97e3613 SEO contest
To me, 97e3613 is nothing but a randomly cooked up combination of seven numbers and one alphabet. Well, a blogger has decided to organize an SEO contest with 97e3613 as the keyword.
Are directories really worth it ?
This is a question on which I have thought long and hard, and am yet to reach upon a decision. Directories have been around for years, and are seen by many webmasters as one of the easiest ways to make money, apart from setting up a blog and putting up Adsense on it. And the recent Google crackdown on the industry has stirred up a debate which has seen former friends becoming enemies , taking shots at each other.
Let us be honest here. Google’s Pagerank system, which is solely based on the number of inbound links to your site, gave rise to the idea of a directory. The idea looks excellent on paper.

Google hops onto the social bookmarking bandwagon
Social bookmarking has become extremely popular in the last couple of years, and there are newer sites coming in everyday. The idea of having the users select the stories that they wanted to read was considered a novel one when the first site appeared on the scene, and there has been no looking back since then. Some of the bigger social bookmarking sites can send hundreds and thousands of visitors to your site at one go- such is the extent to which these sites have become popular.
If your story hits the Digg frontpage, for example, there is a reasonably good chance of your server crashing and your blog going off line. This has therefore resulted in many people trying to sneak their way into the first page by hook or crook- exchanging Diggs is quite a common practice on several webmaster forums. Now, I won’t comment on whether or not that practice is ethical. Some people might believe that you do not need artificial ways to get to the top, for if you genuinely have good content, you will automatically get recognition. Others believe that you need to lend your site a helping hand so that it can stand on its own two legs. The former is true in most cases, but a few diggs from family and friends will not hurt your site one bit. Read it all..

Fed up of Spam ?
How big a problem is spam for your site ? If you run a blog which doesn’t receive too much traffic, you would probably not have to worry too much. Reasonable traffic and pagerank, and the spam will flow in. Viagra, pharmacy, adult, video links….the list can go on and on, but to sum it up in a nutshell, sites which have absolutely nothing to do with the content of your site. All they want is a bit of traffic, and some PR to be leaked from your site. Some people do delete spam religiously, but there are the odd ones which creep in through the system. And considering that most of the work is done by bots and not humans, that success percentage is perfectly acceptable to spammers.
